THE INITIATIVE FOR SOCIAL ACTION AND RENEWAL IN EURASIA
ISAR-AZERBAIJAN

NGO SUPPORT CENTER
Open to all local NGOs and those interested in NGOs in Azerbaijan

ISAR has been working in Azerbaijan since 1995, with support from USAID, to develop and build the capacity of non-governmental, non-commercial, non-political organizations (or NGOs). These organizations work in a wide range of issue areas such as education, health, children & youth, gender, the environment, social services, humanitarian assistance, arts & culture, etc. ISAR works with over 250 local NGOs regularly.

In order to assist the local NGO sector in Azerbaijan develop into a viable Third Sector made up of strong and dynamic organizations with the support of the public and the government, ISAR runs a number of multifaceted programs including a NGO Management Training Program, a Grants Program, an Information & Outreach Program, and a Program in the Regions of Azerbaijan.

NGO MANAGEMENT TRAINING PROGRAM
ISAR’s training team of 8 national trainers provides the following regular services in Baku and the regions of Azerbaijan

NGO Fundamental Management Training

To date over 250 local NGOs have participated in this basic level course, which provides 40-hours of training on the following topics:

  • The Role of NGOs in Society
  • Effective Organizational Structure
  • Strategic Planning
  • Proposal Writing
  • Fundraising
  • Public Relations

Advanced Level Training

For more developed organizations, advanced level training courses are available on: Project Management, Advanced Level Fundraising, Conflict Management in Organizations, Organizational Structural Development, and Financial Management.

Consultations

ISAR trainers provide individual consultations to all NGOs on a regular basis. In addition the trainers provide longer, more comprehensive organizational development consultations to mid-level organizations.

GRANTS PROGRAM
ISAR provides 4 types of grants to local NGOs.

  • Small Grants of $2000-$4000 for social and environmental projects to improve programmatic and financial management.
  • Large Grants of up to $10000 for social, environmental, human rights education, and civil society building projects.
  • Travel Grants for NGO representatives to take part in seminars, conferences, training, etc, which are directly relevant for the activity of the local NGO.

Cooperative Action Grants of up to $500 each for 3 or more NGOs to implement a joint action to promote cooperation and communication between organizations working toward the same goals.

PROGRAM IN THE REGIONS OF AZERBAIJAN
ISAR works in 5 regions of Azerbaijan

The Program in the Regions of Azerbaijan takes ISAR’s NGO Management Training, Grants and Information & Outreach services outside of Baku to 5 regions of Azerbaijan including Ganja, Sheki, Mingichivir, Lenkoran and Kuba.

  • Monthly information sessions and individual consultations are held in each region
  • Intensive Fundamental Management training sessions are held regularly

INFORMATION & OUTREACH PROGRAM
ISAR’s Information & Outreach Program provides valuable resources for NGOs internal development and raises public awareness about the activity of local NGOs and their role in society

  • The NGO Resource Center provides access to over 700 publications and reference materials relevant for NGO development, distributes information on third sector activity in countries around the world, and provides access to computers and email.
  • The Monthly Information Bulletin Third Sector News, produced in three languages, provides up-to-date information about the activities of the local NGO sector and is distributed throughout the local and international communities.
  • A Directory of Active Local NGOs is produced and distributed in Azeri and English on a regular basis.
  • Monthly Information Sessions for local NGOs are held at the beginning of each month to provide up-date information about local NGO activity, funding opportunities, seminars, conferences and other announcements of importance.
  • Monthly Sectoral Meetings (children, health and environment) are focused on developing information exchange and cooperation between local NGOs.

Other activity includes monthly meetings to bring NGOs together with the mass media, student outreach to teach students about NGOs and civil society, an NGO-corporate relations program to increase interaction between NGOs and businesses, creation of an NGO film and much more …
